A little about Liam Phillips

Liam Phillips began his media career as a cadet on the Kalgoorlie Miner regional newspaper in Western Australia. During his cadet year he won the Best Regional News Story award at the WA Media Awards and Best News Story at the WA Country Press Association awards for uncovering corruption at a regional Aboriginal health service.

He then transferred to The West Australian newspaper in Perth, where he worked as a general news and features reporter and sections editor. In this time he won the AH Kornweibel Arts Prize and Tourism Prize for feature writing at the WA Media Awards.

Liam then moved to London where he worked as an online producer for The Evening Standard and as deputy travel editor for The Daily Mail.

He returned to Perth to take up a position as deputy online editor to help re-launch the website of The West Australian.

Following this successful launch, he moved to Fairfax Media to help launch the company’s first foray into Western Australia with the establishment of its new online-only newsroom – WAtoday.com.au. He spent three and a half years as Chief of Staff and News Editor, helping establish WAtoday as the first new media brand in WA for more than 25 years.

He then moved to Sydney to take up a position as Breaking News Editor for the Sydney Morning Herald.
