Rhiannon from Dynamic Business joins the Pitch to Media Press Panel on Wednesday 8th August.
Rhiannon is the associate editor of Dynamic Business. She joined the team in October last year and has since spoken to many entrepreneurs, CEOs and small business owners who all have interesting tales to tell regarding how they got their business started and where they find the daily motivation to keep going.
Coming from a features background in film and lifestyle, Rhiannon enjoys asking questions about the everyday details that go into running a company, and never ceases to marvel at how many people can operate their businesses from home in their pyjamas.
Q1: What makes you take notice of a good media release?
A really good headline that immediately addresses why it’s of interest to me and our publication.
Q2: How would you like Small Businesses to write a press release to Dynamic Business?
By offering us something we haven’t seen before. Try and find what makes your business truly stand out from others and address that in your release.
Q3: During your time as journalist, what is the best press pitch you have seen?
Hard to narrow down the good ones, there’s far too many irrelevant ones! Tying the pitch really well into the release is a great idea, for example when I worked at a film magazine we were sent a lifesize doll to promote Lars and the Real Girl
Q4: What is your pet hate about people submitting press releases?
No thought put into how the pitch fits into our publication and following up with a phone call five minutes after we receive the email!
Q5: What’s your TOP 3 tips for small businesses looking to get media coverage for their business through your media outlet?
Make your pitch stand out, make sure that it’s personalised to the person and publication and offer at least two angles as to why your business is newsworthy.
Q6: What type of press releases are you looking for at Dynamic Business? And how should they contact you?
We’re looking for anything that we haven’t covered before. If your small business is from an industry that we haven’t covered or if you have an angle we haven’t yet pursued.
Contact us via email, that means if we’re on deadline we can respond when we have the chance.
