Scarlett shares her Business Experiences

What was the biggest turning point in your business and what brought it on?

One of my businesses failed because I put all my eggs into one basket. I was supporting my ‘silent’ partners business and it didn’t work out. I’d lost a lot of my clients and I was left out in the cold. That turning point taught me to be smarter about whom I trust and realize that business is business. I also learnt to not ever go into a partnership again unless it’s with some who has their skill invested in it.

What has been your biggest learning experience running your business?

Staff is everything, treat the people that you work with how you would like to be treated and you will have their loyalty and trust.

What’s the best advice you ever got for your business?

Make what the customer wants, not what you want.
Passion and determination is success.

What do you think is the biggest change that Business Owners will need to adapt to over the next 2 years

Adaptability. Fear has become so rife of late, it’s driving businesses to close their doors and unfortunately it’s affecting all of us at present. Clients aren’t willing to pay as much anymore because they are being forced by the market to sell for less. It all goes down the line.

What piece of technology or app can you not live without every day to make your business more efficient?

Iphone, Ipad, FB, Twitter and my blog (wordpress site).

What business strategies are you focusing on to grow your business over the next year?

I’m concentrating on diversifying by calling on other colleague’s skills to band together to offer a great package direct to a client, rather than through a big advertising agency.

One thing you want NSW Government to change to help small business grow?

There needs to be more incentives for small businesses, so they don’t feel so fearful to be out on their own and more incentives for clients to use small businesses – insurances and support networks.
